What a Website Actually Costs in Los Angeles in 2026

If you ask five Los Angeles agencies what a website costs, you will get five different numbers and none of them will be comparable. That is not because anyone is lying. It is because “a website” describes about nine different products, and most quotes bury the differences in a line item called Design & Development.
Here is the actual cost structure, based on quotes we see clients bring us from other LA shops plus our own pricing. Numbers are 2026 and specific to the Los Angeles market, which runs roughly 15–25% above the US average because of local salary costs.
The short answer, by project type
| Project | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single landing page | $2,500 | $4,500 | $7,000 |
| 5–15 page business site | $8,000 | $14,000 | $20,000 |
| Marketing site with SEO build | $25,000 | $38,000 | $60,000 |
| Shopify / WooCommerce store | $18,000 | $34,000 | $85,000 |
| Custom headless build | $60,000 | $95,000 | $250,000+ |
If a Los Angeles agency quotes you $1,500 for a business site, the work is being subcontracted overseas at a rate that does not support discovery, testing or accessibility. That can still be the right call if your budget is genuinely that tight — just know what you are buying.
Where the money actually goes
On a typical $14,000 small business site, the split looks roughly like this:
- Discovery and planning — 10–15%. Analytics review, competitor research, page map, content plan. The part clients most want to cut and most regret cutting.
- Design — 25–30%. Homepage plus three or four unique templates. Interior pages reuse those templates, which is why page 12 costs far less than page 2.
- Development — 35–40%. Build, CMS setup, responsive work across breakpoints, forms, integrations.
- QA, accessibility and launch — 10–15%. Real-device testing, WCAG checks, analytics and conversion tracking, redirects, launch.
- Project management — 5–10%. Usually invisible on the invoice, always paid for somewhere.
The costs most LA quotes leave out
These are the line items that turn a $14,000 project into a $19,000 one. Ask about every one of them before you sign.
- Copywriting — $150–$400 per page. Most quotes assume you supply finished copy. Most clients do not, and the project stalls for six weeks.
- Photography — $1,200–$4,000 for a half-day shoot in LA. Stock is fine for some categories and instantly disqualifying in others, like restaurants or fitness.
- Stock licensing — $200–$800. Small, but it is real, and using unlicensed images is how businesses receive $2,000 demand letters.
- Content migration — $20–$60 per post. If you have 200 blog posts, that is a real number, not a rounding error.
- Third-party integrations — $500–$5,000. CRM, booking systems, payment gateways, MLS or inventory feeds.
- Accessibility remediation — $2,000–$8,000 if it was not built in from the start.
Ongoing costs after launch
| Item | Monthly (LA, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Managed WordPress hosting | $30 – $250 |
| Maintenance and security | $150 – $600 |
| Local SEO retainer | $1,500 – $5,000 |
| Content production | $800 – $4,000 |
| Premium plugins and licences | $20 – $150 |
Budget roughly 15–20% of the build cost per year to keep a site current. Sites that skip this are the ones that get rebuilt from scratch every three years, which is far more expensive than maintaining them.
How to make a quote cheaper without making it worse
- Reduce unique templates, not total pages. Twelve pages using three templates costs far less than eight pages using seven templates.
- Write your own first-draft copy. Even rough copy in your own voice saves the agency days and you money.
- Launch in phases. A strong ten-page site now beats a perfect forty-page site nine months from now.
- Skip custom illustration and animation on version one. Add it later once the site is earning.
- Do not cut discovery, testing or accessibility. These are the three that cost multiples to fix afterwards.
The most expensive website is the second one you have to build because the first was scoped by price instead of by outcome.
What we charge
For transparency: our landing pages start at $3,000, small business sites at $8,000, marketing sites with SEO at $25,000, and ecommerce at $14,000. Every project is fixed-price after a free discovery call, and the price does not move unless you change scope in writing.
If you want a specific number for your situation, book a discovery call. If you are still comparing options, our guide to choosing a web design agency in LA has a scoring sheet you can run on every shop you talk to, and our main services page lays out exactly what is included at each tier.
