A plain breakdown of what LA web design work actually involves — what each service covers, what it costs, how long it takes and which businesses need it. Written so you can price a project yourself before anyone gets on a call with you.
The craft is the same everywhere. What changes in Los Angeles is the competitive floor. In most categories here — legal, medical, home services, fitness, restaurants, real estate — the top ten organic results are all professionally built, all fast, and all actively maintained. A site that would rank fine in a smaller market lands on page three here.
The second difference is geography. LA is not one market. Someone searching from Santa Monica, from Pasadena and from Long Beach gets meaningfully different local results, and a business with one location cannot rank across all of them by wishing. That shapes how a site is structured: service pages, location pages, and a Google Business Profile that matches both.
Run your current site through PageSpeed Insights and look at the field data, not the lab score. If Largest Contentful Paint is over 2.5 seconds on mobile, fixing that will usually beat a redesign on cost and on time-to-result.
You can buy these separately. Most projects use two or three, not all six.
Layout, typography, hierarchy and interaction design. Delivered in the browser at real breakpoints so nothing breaks on a phone. For businesses whose site looks dated or converts badly.
Turning the design into a fast, maintainable site your team can edit. WordPress for content-heavy sites, Shopify for retail, headless when traffic or complexity justifies it.
Google Business Profile, location and service pages, local schema, citation cleanup and review workflow. For any business that needs customers within driving distance.
Image pipelines, font loading strategy, script deferral, caching and hosting moves. The highest-return work on most existing LA sites.
WCAG 2.2 AA remediation, tested with real screen readers and keyboard navigation. Reduces legal exposure and usually improves SEO as a side effect.
Form and checkout friction audits, page-level testing, tracking that actually reflects revenue. For sites already getting traffic that is not converting.
Assuming content is ready. Content delays are the number one cause of overrun on every project we have run.
Right for the majority of LA service businesses. Best-in-class for content and local SEO, huge talent pool so you are never stuck with one vendor, and your marketing person can publish without a developer. The downside is maintenance — it needs updating, and an unmaintained WordPress site becomes a security problem within a year.
Right for retail and DTC. Checkout is handled, PCI compliance is handled, apps cover most of what you need. The trade-off is content flexibility: Shopify blogs and landing pages are weaker than WordPress, which matters if organic search is your main channel.
Right when you have real scale, an in-house developer, or performance requirements a traditional CMS cannot meet. Genuinely faster and more flexible. Also genuinely more expensive to build and impossible to maintain without a developer on hand. Most businesses asking for headless do not need it.
Right for a business under $500k in revenue that needs to exist online and is not competing on organic search. Not a mistake, just a ceiling. When SEO becomes the main channel you will migrate, and migrating is more expensive than starting on the right platform.
If you are an LA service business and unsure, the answer is WordPress with a maintenance plan. It is the boring choice and it is correct roughly eight times out of ten.
A complete quote should cover discovery, information architecture, design of each unique template, development, responsive testing, accessibility checks, analytics and conversion tracking setup, launch, and a defined post-launch support window. Content writing, photography and stock licensing are usually separate — check, because that is where quotes diverge most.
We write structure and can write copy as an add-on, but the best results come from your subject knowledge plus our editing. Nobody knows your objections and your customer language better than the person who takes the calls.
Yes, and often we prefer it. If you have a brand guide we design within it. If you do not, we will establish enough of a system to keep the site coherent without charging you for a full identity project you did not ask for.
A dedicated page per location with genuinely different content — real address, real staff, real service area, real photos — plus a matched Google Business Profile for each. Duplicating one template with the city name swapped is a well-known way to get nothing indexed.
You get admin access, documentation and a walkthrough recording. We monitor Search Console and Core Web Vitals field data for 30 days as standard. After that, ongoing care is optional and month to month — there is no lock-in.
Standard terms are 40% to start, 30% at design sign-off, 30% at launch. For projects over $30,000 we can spread it monthly across the build. We do not do work on spec or on a revenue share.
